ABOUT US

Deployment of renewable energy complements and investment in sustainable energy complements the United Nations Sustainable Energy for All initiative, which appreciates the central role energy plays in development. Renewable energy development initiative is stimulated by fears of energy security and concerns to mitigate environmental degradation caused by conventional fossil fuels. Both developed and developing nations have a significant amount of renewable energy resources in the form of solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, and hydropower. These sources remain untapped, but immense. Energy sources derived from extractive industries such as coal, oil, and gas can provide the planet with enough energy to power electrical grids, but these fossil fuel sources are unreliable and unsustainable. The current legal regimes favors fossil fuels through government-backed subsidies and loan guarantees. Having legal mandates, including a national renewable energy portfolio and renewable energy targets (RETs), which promote the diversity of energy sources lays the foundation for a reliable electrical system.
